Q: I am looking to understand the shade level for the breach outsert that is used for the cutting torches?

A: To understand the shade level of the Avon Breach Outsert, it is crucial to determine your particular welding needs. Our Avon Breach Outsert is a shade level 5. Shade level 5 is acceptable for Plasma Arc Cutting (PAC) between 20-40 Amperes. Welding helmet shade numbers vary from 4 to 13. The smaller numbers from 4 to 8 are useful in grinding and cutting processes. The larger the shade number, the darker the filter lens. It is important to know the environment of your workspace, the current range of your welding process and the electrode diameter of your welding gun or machine. Regarding the full range of welding, our Avon Breach Outsert is one of the lightest available so please consider that important point when deciding. It does comply with a luminous transmission for a filter shade 5 (oxygen cutting).

Shade 5:
· Suitable for low amperage electric arc welding processes like TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding
· Provides moderate protection against UV and IR radiation
Inadequate for higher amperage welding methods
