What is WEEE?

WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment and is commonly used to refer to the European Directive 2012/19/EU. This directive has been transposed into UK law as the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013 (Statutory Instrument 2013/3113).

These regulations aim to reduce the amount of electronic waste sent to landfill, encourage the recycling and recovery of valuable materials, and prevent hazardous substances from entering the environment.

What does this symbol mean?

If you spot a little crossed-out wheeled bin on your product or its packaging, it’s a reminder not to throw it in your regular household bin. This symbol was introduced by the European Council as part of the WEEE initiative, which encourages proper recycling of electronic items. It’s your responsibility to make sure disposal is done in accordance with local laws, typically by taking it to a designated collection point. Sometimes you’ll see a black line beneath the symbol.

WEEE at Avon Protection

We are committed to environmental stewardship and compliance with the WEEE Regulations. However, it's important to note that many of our products fall outside the scope of these regulations and are exempt from mandatory take-back requirements.

For products that are not exempt, Avon Protection may be responsible for their recycling and disposal under the WEEE Regulations in the following scenarios:

(I) The equipment was originally purchased before 13 August 2005, and is now being replaced by Avon products of the same type or serving the same function.

(II) The equipment in question is Avon Technologies equipment purchased after 13 August 2005.

In either of these cases, please contact your local Avon Protection representative to review eligibility for free take-back and recycling.
